Release: The Valency - STABS
March 17th, the day the prophets foretold the coming of The Valency’s abomination of an album, STABS. STABS stands for, if you look at the album cover, Smiking ’till A Brunt Spadge. The meaning of this is open to interpretation, and it holds no real significance in relation to the album.
You can really sum up this album as a compilation of failings and experiments, or failing experiments, and as such, they are quite short. The outcome of this project is the result of two or so years of on-and-off, self taught FL Studio. I have no knowledge whatsoever in musical theory, sound engineering, sound mechanics, I cannot play any instruments, nor do I know how to make music. But hey, what do you know, here I am giving you 23 weird sound tracks I’ve managed to conjure up.
Quoting my good mate Brennan Heart’s vocals in ‘The Evolution of Style’, this album is “an audio timeline, from the old to the new.”. This basically means, anything toward the start of the album was produced - using that term very loosely - in late 2006, early 2007. The rest of the songs, except maybe two or three of the last songs were created mid to late 2007. The last couple are 2008.
Obviously, if you actually enjoy these songs, you’ve got a very unusual and eccentric music taste, or you’re retarded. These songs sound relatively normal to me, but then again, I listen to a lot of Aphex Twin/AFX. Also, if you’re reading this, it probably means you’re a visitor that has come to the site more than once, not looking for a particular vinyl or album, but rather a collector of the fine arts (hardstyle and hardcore). Because of this, you’re probably used to hearing the quality tracks that Keby and I put up on the blag each day. These tracks are recorded in studios by professionals, and I’d just like to point out that I’m some snot-nosed kid making music in my basement, so the songs probably aren’t going to have that air of quality you’ve come to expect. I don’t have any music production hardware, hell, I don’t even have a real sound card. So in all this, I’m pretty much telling you to keep your expectations low. I don’t make this music to please a particular crowd, I make it for myself.
Anyway, let’s begin:
Apocalypse - This was the first real song I ever made, finished at the end of 2006. Using trusty ol’ Sytrus and the default sample pack from FL Studio, this was the end result. I’m actually quite a fan of this song.
Bonus Points 2.0 - A remake of one of my weird experiments. It’s pretty much an 8-bit sounding track with a relatively heavy kick.
GGT - Stands for Generic Gabber Track. This was created in my ‘denial’ phase, where I believed gabber was too fast and loud, but hey, times change. This track doesn’t really need explaining, other than that it’s not really a song.
Loledy - Experimenting with kicks, bass and compression.
Pegasus - A melody by Pegasus F, recreated by Teztronica, put into action by The Valency.
Facefuck - Another, more heartfelt attempt at (what I think anyway) slight Angerfist hardcore resemblance.
Frisbee - A trippy chillout test, using Sytrus only.
Nightmare (Redreamt) - The extended version of a crowd favourite. I don’t want to ruin it for you, because it’s traditionally a suprised, but make sure you listen to it loud.
Depth - I hate this song, I don’t know why it’s on here. Trancey sounding.
Cruiser - I made a few melodies/sub-melodies that I thought I might stick in a track. The end result (I feel) is a song that is on the verge of climax, but just can’t make it over the edge.
Window - As my friends will happily inform you, this originally spawned off a tutorial, focusing mainly on compression and beat slicing. It shows extremely little resemblance to the tutorial. One of my half-decent earlier songs, drum & bass themed.
Gronks2k - Greece 2000 melody from Marcel Woods, recreated by Teztronica, put into action by The Valency. Nothing actually happens in this song. It’s actually what was going to be the intro to a longer track, but I got sick of the melody, and I imagine anyone else who listens would too.
The Iceman - A test of a new VST, featuring Bioshock vocals. I think there are some cool moments in this song, and I’m pretty proud of it.
It Could Be Better (Valence Mix) - The melodical stylings of DJ Keby, from his track It Could Be Worse. Vocals are stripped, sounds are changed to reflect an.. easier listening experience and a climax is added.
Wasted - A bizarre attempt at electro. People tell me it sounds like a mash-up between electro and NES music.
Transmission - A definate crowd favourite, and one of my greater moments. I feel it’s quite dance-able, unlike anything else I’ve made.
Faded - Similar to Wasted, minus the NES.
Void - Think Star Trek travel music.
Sweep - An attempt at creating a harder styled song, with an original melody. This is probably a turning point for my production skills. (I feel they’re getting half-decent)
War of the Worlds - Features vocals from the radio play adaptation, hardstyle melody and a hard feel.
The Crash - A nifty intro, with a nifty melody and hard climax. Hardstyle.
Just Like You (Valence Mix) - I finished this one just last night. It’s the melody from a lesser known (but great) track, Just Like You, by SMD. Hardstyle.
Bonus Track: Bloopity Bloop Bloop (Olsen Vocal Edition) - This song is only on here because some people don’t want it on here. What I perceive a generic happy hardcore song to be. It was made early on. Not a serious song.
So that’s it. That’s everything from under the STABS branch. Once again, don’t expect magic.

Nice…Essay.
Perhaps if you put half the effort of a 1000 word post into University you would achieve something. Okay I shouldn’t be mean;
It’s your 18th birthday after all!
Congrats on releasing the album, even though I like good music I can still appreciate the creativity and the work you’ve done. The bonus track is without a doubt the best song on the track, that guy has a hot homo voice.
Tobez
I checked out the tracks from Sweep on, was better than I expected.
War of the Worlds was pretty cool reminded me of the Blutonium Boy - Hardstyle Dimension cd and of course Donkey Rollers - Immeasurably.
Crash was good and the Just Like You climax took me buy surprise a bit, sounded fresh. Id recommend a different bass drum or compress it a bit and maybe a different kick.
I dont know if you know much about mix downs but that would help a bit. I did a course at SAE in Brisbane called electronic music production or something, It was real good you’d like it.
This album is a mantelpiece.
Leave your response!
